Tbh, I like to keep it as simple as I 'can' (lol). Seriously though, I've always been a 'neccessity' homebrewer, but I love the fact that I can make something myself that tastes twice as good as bottlshop swill. The last place I lived I brewed a nice Pure Blonde clone, Black Rock was the brand I think, plus Canadian Blonde which was great seeing the weather gets quite hot here. I was a shiftworker at the time so kept it simple to keep the pipeline happening. There were Jabotucaba trees growing there so I'd harvest the fruit & make my own wine too (14%ABV), which tasted like alcoholic lychee juice. I got better at the science behind it by watching plenty of YouTube, I'm not really into a heavy-tasting beer but now my life is a lot more settled, I would probably start adding steeping grains if I felt like bolstering the flavours a bit. I've also brewed a Stone & Wood Pacifical Ale clone for a while (Byron Bay Brewery), galaxy hoppy goodness lol. Really nice crafty-style beer.

I moved to Central Queensland about 18 months ago & it gets extremely bloody hot here, 40 degrees Celsius can be a normal day, though lately with storm season the temps are all over the place. We found out recently that in most states, only 50% of our glass is being recycled which pissed everyone off a bit, but it prompted me to kick everything up a notch & try to get 100% homebrew happening in the house again, to reduce waste. I'm definitely sticking with the lawnmower beers though, due to the heat. I'm making a Great Northern Supercrisp clone atm, Mangrove Jacks Classic Blonde Dry. The house is tiled & airconditioned, so it's cool enough for the yeasties. I think I watched Craig make up one of their Cider Kits a while back, I wouldn't mind giving that a go too.

My partner in crime works for the rail network, employees have to blow in the bag before each shift (ie breath testing - if you blow numbers, you get fired). So only am I trying to brew a skinny-arsed-beer, it has to be 3.5% ABV (only the wicked will be punished, right? Lol). As females both of us can only have 1 standard (30g/375ml) per hour to stay under the legal driving limit of .05, so as daily beer-lovers, it's easier to count your drinks (just leave the tastier rocket fuel for the days off). I found adding 250g light dry malt (+ enzyme), using 500ml swing tops with single primer drops, the final result was right on the money. Pouring into the right size glasses also helps to keep count.

Please feel free to go ahead and download skype and create an account. Just so you know, there is absolutely no need to spend one cent on anything with skype. Just ignore the payment stuff they provide (it's for using skype to call phones directly without them using skype). Skype itself is free to use.

I was just on skype with a couple of the crew members, TASsparks from Tasmania, and vic, from Sydney, and CorronZenith from Adelaide. Would be very nice to chat with you some time as well. Let us know when you're all set, and we'll hook you up.

I think I'll be starting out with a kit first, most likely all or primarily extract for a while. I just have the standard pot from the general cooking sets right now but I'll probably be ordering a 5 gallon.

one thing that is important and will save money in the long run, buy a big pot.
5 gallon pot wont be able to boil a full five gallons of wort. i started with a 4gal because i had it :)
once i did a couple of kits i bought a 8 gallon pot, which was perfect for full volume boils for 5 gallons of beer. I actually do 5.25-5.50gal batches. i learned over time about loss to trub and dry hopping  ;) most of the time your starting volume to boil will be 6-7gallons depending on your boil of rate. some of the stuff and terms sound scary ::) but they aren't.   so dont rush to buy a 5gallon pot save up and buy a bigger pot you wont be disappointed you did. otherwise you will end up having a 5 gallon and a bigger pot.  oh yeah most important thing in brewing beer is Sanitize, Sanitize, Sanitize  8) there are other things too, but we can discuss later
