What would be a extract version?

As far as I can remember I don't think there was a straight extract version of the 17 nut Brown ale.. But there was a mini mash version which included some dry malt extract. Have a look in the recipe section and you should see the post-called "17 nut Brown ale recipe" or "17 nut Brown ale ingredients" one of the last pages will show you the mini mash recipe.

Looks like I'm going to brew the Nut Brown Ale this weekend.   Two changes i am thinking of making and i'd like your opinions... I'm thinking about adding a pound of honey to it at the end of the boil.   Secondly, I had harvested and will use a starter of Wyeast 1728 - Scottish Ale yeast instead of the nottingham.

I got the grain bill and hops from a LHBS that I've been going to for awhile thats near me called Whats Brewing?.  A real nice lady by the name of Nancy owns and operates the shop in Palatine IL USA.

Is it ok for me to "give a plug" for her on here or is that a no-no?

I just really appreciate her and want her to do well.

Primary:  Irish Red Ale
Secondary:  Cream Ale
Carbonating: Vanilla Oak Bourbon Porter
Drinkin' : Azacca Pale Ale, Belgian Tripel

just brewed it for the second time, i reduced the chocolate malt to 4oz this time.
but i mashed them the whole time >:( next time i wont forget to add them at the last 15-20min of the mash.
it is still a very nice brew for the fall.
i dont see any problems with your changes. its a honey nut brown ale ;)
cheers and good luck

PS. i dont see a problem putting a plug out there for your LHBS. 17!

Uh oh!  I had the whole grain bill put together... I can't separate out anything to add later in the mash.  Is that wrong?  Is it the chocolate malt that you wanted to segregate and add later?  Why do you want to do that?

yes, the chocolate malt was added late to get the color and some flavor.
I added it all and i got more chocolate malt flavor and darker then the orignal brew, but its still a great beer.
DrHans has a video on adding specialty malts late in the mash
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=319&v=d7oXcFFGJcE
Its like 5 min into the video he talks about it.
cheers

Ah, wonderful Combat.  Thanks for the explanation.  I really like Dr. Hans' videos.  Thanks for the link.  Well, i guess i'm good for now on this one as is I guess... starter is going strong... i'm getting my groove on with a little bourbon.

A nice relaxing Friday night after a long work week.

Cheers to you my friend.
