Enigma Bitter - Pale Ale

Enigma Bitter Pale Ale

This brew was a recipe I designed on a spreadsheet program with ingredients I had on hand.
I wanted to use a single hop, Enigma, to get a taste for it on its own. And what a great hop it is.

As I am an extract/kit brewer, I used a TCS Australian Bitter Kit as my base, which is no longer made sadly.
A substitue would be required to make this great beer. I intend to try a Morgans Australian Bitter next time.

Ingredients

1x Coopers/Morgans Australian Bitter 1.7kg
1x Coopers Light Liquid Malt Extract 1.5kg
2x Mr Beer Pale LME packs (2x 250g)
100g Crystal Munich
100g Carapils

15g x Enigma @ 20mins
15g x Enigma @ 10mins
15g x Enigma @ Flameout
15g x Enigma Dry on Day 6/7

US-05 yeast pitched dry
Pitched @ 22C
Brewed @ 20C

Method

I steeped the grains for 30mins @72C in 4.5L, sparged with 500mls of hot water, removed and then added the Mr Beer Packs and half the Light LME and brought to a boil.
After the hot-break, I added the 20min additions, boiled for 10mins, added the 10min addition, continued the boil for another 10mins and switched off the heat, then added the flameout addition. I cooled the boil pot in a sink of cold water.

I then added the Aussie Bitter tin and remaining LME tin contents to the FV and once the wort cooled to 55C I added it via a strainer to the FV, topped up to the 23L to about 22C mark, stirred it all together, checked the temperature and added the yeast.

I brewed at 20c for 14 days then kegged and bottled.
On about day 7, I added the Dry hop addition to the FV.

This beer is so full of flavour! Now one of my favorites.
I doubt it will last long for anyone that brews it!
