St Peter's Ruby Red Ale Clone
« on: August 06, 2017, 06:33:28 PM »
Hello,
Does anyone have any information on a clone recipe for St Peter's Ruby Red Ale?  It is next to impossible to get their homebrew kits in the US, and there is little, if any, clone recipes to be found on the internet.

Thanks and Cheers! 17

I have made a few beers that were quite close and have also just done a little research.
If you tell me what batch size you would like to brew , I could come up with a recipe for you that would go very close. Also , if you would like to bump the abv a few points, let me know. 17.

This would be a 5 gallon batch for me, and I would make it around 4.5-5.5%.

Thanks

Are you happy to use a coopers tin or would you prefer to go all extract?

Either way is good.  I can make extract, partial extract, or all grain.  I use all methods

I havnt forgotten about this. I have been preoccupied however. I have chilled a beer i made months ago that i think will be close and i will drink it side by side a St Peter's soon and report back. Apologies for the delay. 17.

Not a problem.  Thanks for the help.  In my area I can get their Golden Ale, Cream Stout, IPA, Old Style Porter, and Dirty Tackle.  No Ruby Red though, so it's tough for me to formulate a recipe with no baseline for comparison. Tough to find clone recipes for any of their beers.  We'll keep at it though!
Cheers 17!

I just went to purchase one of these and they no longer stock it. My brother sometimes works near a craft beer shop and next time he is going there(hopefully next week) i'll get him to stop in and get one. 17.

I have tried to buy a bottle of this from the 2 most likely places i could and they no longer stock it.
I have tried it a few times and have also had a bottle from the kit they make.(thanks Tas). The kit one was even better than the commercial one IMO.

I will drink the beer i have made that I think would be close today and also , yesterday, I made one that I think will be even closer. If it is too dark or bitter I have a backup plan for that as well.

The recipe for the brew yesterday was a tin of coopers eng bitter, 500g ldme , 1x coopers be2, 300g dex, 10g EKG@10 mins and 13g cascade @ 0 with the coopers yeast. will keep you posted. cheers. P.S.22L.

Thanks for the information.  This has been a tough one for me to crack.  From looking at the homebrew kits, I see that they put Goldings hop powder in it, and I think it comes out to be maybe about a 4.2-4.6% beer.  The grain bill is my biggest obstacle.  Thanks for the recipe you posted.  I've made the Coopers Eng bitter before, and its not a bad beer, I found it easily drinkable.  Cheers!

I kegged that beer yesterday. It's not red. I'll have a taste soon and report back about seeing how we can make it close. I'm not a stickler for getting low abv beers exact though lol. cheers.
