Priming - Batch priming Coopers
« on: January 22, 2018, 12:17:37 PM »
Hey there,

New DIY here.  I've got a quick question on batch priming.  Just finished bottling an Australian Pale Ale - Coopers.  I primed my bottling bucket at about 8grams/liter of dextrose  with a cup of water (23 L batch).

Just wondering what everyone thinks of that.  I've mostly seen much lower quantities of dextrose on other videos.  I had one suggestion of 500g of dextrose.

Used a Muntons beer enhancer kit 1kg for primary.  Primary, secondary fermenation almost 3 weeks.  Gonna let is sit for 3 weeks after bottling.

Hi Duane,

So, you primed 8 grams of priming sugar for each liter in a 23 liter batch.... 184 grams total?
Primary:  Blueberry Mead
Secondary:
Carbonating:
Drinkin' : Chinook IPA, Mango Mead

I find 6-7g/L ideal.

The most I've ever done was 5 oz per 5 gallons, which to me would end up being too carbonated for my taste and would end up being out of range for the style.  5 oz per 5 gallons comes to 7.47g/liter.

At 8g/liter, the beer would end up way way way overcarbonated for my taste.  But to each his own.  Using tools like Beersmith as well as a handful of stand alone priming calculators out there, you can dial in the appropriate priming sugar to attain the carbonation for a particular style of beer.  All you do is input the variables... size of batch, style of beer, and storage temperature.

Here's one that I use frequently.
