Clean Slate Saison - International collaboration series
« on: February 07, 2018, 07:21:54 AM »
BB's version:

Batch size: 23 L

1 can of Coopers Lager
500g Light DME
500g Dextrose
500g Caramunich III -> mini mash
500g Torrified Wheat -> mini mash
10g Ella hops (15% AA) @ flameout
10g Ella hops (7% BA) @ whirlpool (70-60 C)
15g Ella hops dryhop @ day 4
1 pk Mangrove Jacks French Saison M29

OG: 1.043

I crushed and did a mini mash with the 1kg of specialty malts for 30 mins, in which time the temp dropped from 69 to 60 C. I sparged with 1 liter of water over my mash bag, added the dextrose and DME, and brought it to a boil. Once the hot break cleared up, I turned it off and added the flameout addition of hops. Once it reached 70 C i added the whirlpool addition of hops and once it reached 60 C. I cold crashed it until it was 20C before I pitched that into the fermenter.

I rehydrated the yeast and gave it a bit of nutrients. I did not put pure oxygen into this one as my two fellow crew brewers on this recipe does not have that equipment, and seeing as the OG was fairly low (my bad calculation on volume, should have been a 20L batch, not 23)

I will ferment at 29 C for a week or so, then CC for a few days before kegging. Just for fun, I will make the same recipe with Coopers Draught kit and brew to 21 liters.

Co-brewers on this can chime in here with how they went about their version - if and when they chose to.

Edit: OG with Coopers Draught @ 21 L was 1.045

Nope, I still insist on having an address of my own. It wouldn't be very effective to have all my mail shipped half across the globe. Apart from the bills.

You're recipe looks pretty good, Smokey. Maybe add in a dry hop of 15 grams with the Ella too, for good measure?

I've added my version to untappd under the name of Clean Slate Saison 17
Would you believe me if I told you there are two other brews on untappd named Clean Slate? And that they're BOTH a saison as well?

Beautiful, smokey! Now they were two, and we wait for yet another mystery brewer, on yet another continent.

My two versions were served at my beer club Saturday, and were very well received by all who tasted. Can't wait to try the other brewers.
