Just read Brad Smiths article in BYO where he states ( and I believe ) that late hop additions are mostly a waste due to hop oils evaporating and really no time to get any additional bittering via isomerization.  The end recco was to just do 60 min boil additions and dry hop to get the most bang for your hop buck. Any thoughts?

Late hop additions are mostly not for bittering anyway. They are for flavour and aroma. So is dry hopping. I have a pale ale recipe with no 60min hop addition, the first one is 30min before flame out. It's a great brew. The first 20 minutes of the boil is where most of the bittering is drawn out anyway. The graph sort of flats out after that. Then there is whirlpool additions where you extract more beta acids, as contrary to the alpha acids you get for the bittering during boil. There ya go, my thoughts to it.

bittering happens in the first twenty so minutes.
I add hops in the last 5 minutes for my IPA's to get that grapefruit flavor.
I also dry hop 5-7 days before kegging/bottling. For me i found in some experimental beers that dry hop flavors dissipate fast. after a month on some of those beers the aromas were gone.  it could of been other factors too, but thats my 2pennies worth of babble  :)

Brew, His point  was that at most temps > 160F. The oils are going to mostly evaporate. So, add the flavoring hops at whirlpool or dry hop to get the most bang for your flavoring-hop buck.

Well, the only real way to do this is with split batch. Do late hop additions to one, and leave the other one alone until dry hopping time. See what you find. I love doing experiments like this and I have several recipes brewed in several ways. I make notes, and thus with time you will have experience for yourself. Brad has a point in the oils evaporating off over time, but I sincerely disagree that late additions are a waste. Oils don't evaporate nearly as easily as water, so I still stand by the 10, 5, and flame out additions.
