after doing more research on RedX i found it is said to be like a Munich malt with more caramel notes to it. there isnt alot of information on it like other malts. so going by what others have posted on the internets

Carared is 2 row barrel roasted German barley (per Weyermann) it also has caramel notes

so when we go to build it we need to take into consideration that both malts add caramel notes.
we can keep the amounts down for the base malts maybe 70/20 mix of MO and Redx
just something to chew on for a bit :)

Newf84, there more than likely is a Red X substitute from another maltser (Would be interesting to know if you could remember what it was), but each maltster has a slightly different process so the same grain will likely turn out a touch different from Maltster A and Maltster B.

Having said that having alternative options is always a bonus.

So looking like Rye and Carared then, unless the voters are waiting until the death to turn the tide. 17

I gladly change my Magnum bittering  vote for Fuggles to keep it more English.

Can we go on with yeast now?
I vote for WLP 004 Irish ale yeast.

https://www.whitelabs.com/yeast-bank/wlp004-irish-ale-yeast

According to the description it produces a slight hint of diacetyl, balanced by a light fruitiness and slight dry crispness.

Sounds like the right yeast to me for this brew!

Love the grain bill! I will vote on hops later. I need to look at my recipe book and find the red ale I made before because I thought it was great
