New from Tennessee - The CraigTube Rabbit Hole Lead Me Here
« on: March 15, 2018, 02:16:20 PM »
Greetings everyone

Like many, I'm here because of Craig. I've wanted to brew beer for a long time and I first thought I'd like to test the fermented waters with Mr. Beer, so I searched YouTube to learn more and discovered CraigTube. I've been binging on his videos ever since. Mainly because he is such a genuine fellow.

I soon realized that a 2 gallon Mr. Beer yield will really be a waste of my time, so I am now trying to decide between the Cooper's DIY kit, or something else. I'll be purchasing through Amazon.

A little about me:

Middle-aged. Family man. I do radio shows for the local station, podcasts and videos. I'm a music nut. Played in bands for years. Former recording engineer. Have always preferred vinyl. Actually, a lot like Craig, except he has about 4 years on me, and I'm more of a Punk Rock guy.

Anyway, once I land on the best brew kit for me I'm planning on making videos as well. Though I am certain that I'll want to get into all-grain brewing, I think I should begin with extract kits to get my brewer's legs.

Looking forward to learning from all y'all, because I'm as green as a pea right now.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard
I also started with the Mr Beer kit and found CraigTube too.
I got my 5 gallon starter kit from Northern Brewer, it came with everything to get me going
a 6 gallon bottling bucket, 6 gallon glass carboy and a 5 gallon carboy.
bottle capper, hydrometer and a extract kit of my choice not a bad deal.
I now use a fermonster for my main fermentor and my glass carboys for other brews.
we just started building a new 17 brewcrew beer so come on over and join the process.

Thank you for the reply, combat32!

I've been looking at a couple kits from Northern Brewer. They've been in my Amazon wishlist for a while. I've been leaning toward one of them, and I think you may have just pushed me closer!

I really think the thing that draws me to the Cooper's DIY kit is that it comes with the bottles. but that is probably the only thing that keeps me coming back and looking at it. I would rather have a traditional brewing bucket with airlock setup.

I hear ya, I like those plastic bottles too.
but i just went and bought some Sam Adams beers and drank em, rinsed the bottles and then put them in a bucket with some oxiclean over night and those labels peel right off.
a quick wash with a brillo pad like brand new. after my second or third 5 gallon batch i decided to switch to kegging, im a little lazy ;)
what kits are you eyeing up at Northern Brewer?
if you like IPA's try the Dead Ringer IPA, ive brewed it a few times and my version a few more. I also like their Caribou Slobber, Ace of Spades BIPA, Irish Red ale.
