Dry Hopped Lager's
« on: March 19, 2018, 10:11:13 AM »
So tried some very interesting dry hopped lagers out there, really Like Adnams Jack Brand Dry Hopped Lager as I understand its dry hopped with Galaxy

So I am brewing 2 cheap lager kits to start and going to dry hop them

1st fermenter
Geordie Lager Kit, using a M84 Bohemian Lager Yeast, fermenting at 13c - 15c and I going to dry hop this with 100g Crystal?

Any Suggestions or personal thoughts to dry hopping Geordie Lager Kit? as this kit did not come with hops, After making the kit up they was a very strong smell of saaz hops (maybe)

2nd fermenter
Festival US Steam Beer and that is dry hopped with 100g California Common pellets anyway, Comes with a Californian lager yeast, fermentering at 21c

Cheers Dave

I'm not telling you not to use the Crystal hops, but you mentioned liking the Galaxy dry hopped beer. So I just wanted to make sure you knew what flavors your were going to get out of the Crystal hops, and they are nothing like Galaxy. I have never even heard California Common hops so I can't comment on those. But overall I think this is a perfectly good idea. Let us know how it turns out for you. Cheers.

Will do.

After thinking about it I went with 100g Crystal, like the sound of the Characteristics- Tangerine, Citrus.

Cheers

That's interesting. I have not heard those as descriptors for Crystal hops. Floral and spicy are the ones I've heard. Now I'm even more curious bc I have a decent bit of Crystal hops that I need to use up.

I would suggest you try some of those bottles along the way if you want to see what the dry hops do. After 6 months the hop flavor/aroma will have dropped off considerably.

bottle age at what temp?    bottle aging at very low temp can be good but..

remember, taste the beer along the way:)     some beer tastes best fresh:) /young

Hello,

Bottles will be going in a cellar its around 10-12c after one week of conditioning at around 15c

yes I may try one half way, I think at 100g I may have over hopped so ageing should work well, but time will tell :)

Trust me, that is not the case. I have never dry hopped anything with less then 110g. I just made a NEIPA that has a pound of dry hops for 10 gallons.
