I am a new brewer to the hobby and here. I have done a couple mr beer kits so far with some success. I have found that their projected abv to be higher than the actual.
So in a couple of weeks I am going to be starting a Mr Beer Churchill's Brown. I have heard mixed reviews on it. I was wondering if
 a) is it any good?
 b) should I add some dme/dextrose? I was considering either some           honey or brown sugar

never did that one, but i would add some DME for sure maybe a pound its been awhile for me doing extract. the DME will give it some more mouth feel, maybe get some Maltodextrine add some of that too, since its a brown. just remember Sanitize the hell out of everything  8)
that was my issue with the mr beer kit, and i was a new brewer then too and didnt really follow instructions  :-[   good luck

So I brewed it as is. ie just the hme. I just bottled it on 5/12/18. I did take a taste and it tasted similar to Samuel Smith's Nut Brown, other than the obvious warm and flatness.

So here is the final review.
3 weeks fermentation and 3 weeks bottle conditioning
The beer is very malty with nutty caramel notes up front that finishes with a slight bitterness. It is a fairly dry beer. The taste really is similar to Samuel Smith's Nut Brown. The mouth feel is nice. It coats the mouth without being thick. I could imagine this as a good beer on a cool fall day or sitting around the campfire. It is probably not a hot summer day after mowing the lawn beer.

The SRM is darker than expected in the 35-39 range.

There is really little carbonation and the little head dissipated within the first 20 seconds.

The ABV is unknown as my hydrometer broke and the replacement didn't get in on time for me to measure the initial gravity. But I would estimate it at around 4-4.5%

This beer would be well paired with a steak, burger, or a shepard's or cottage pie. (The difference being a true shepard's pie uses lamb where as a cottage uses beef.)

Would I recommend this kit? Yes I would. It is a tasty brew.

thats great, glad the hear it worked out.
yeah heavy malty beers aren't great in the hot summer ;)
but in the fall the rock.
