Coopers Lager as a base
« on: April 08, 2018, 04:01:49 PM »
I have been using the Coopers Lager as a base recently and it is great for a pale ale. Using the kit along with a steep of 200g of Crystal 60 or Caramunich, some hops for a dry hop and US-05 yeast makes for a great beer that is easy to make. I love all grain beer but it is a long process that I don’t have time or patients for most of the time and this type of brew makes for the best possible brew with the least work IMO. This brew with any type of hip you like to dry hop with works great.

Cheers.

Another base for this approach is the Coopers Pilsner.

I found the same thing tweaking the Lager into a saison. Just use the right yeast and hops and BOOM, you're there. I served it at the beer club alongside an allgrain saison brewed to style guidelines, and saison lovers preferred the kit based ones. The other base to saison was Coopers Draught which also works a treat!

Thanks for sharing!!

wish some stores near me had coopers kits :( im in the USA and cant find them in the northeast.
i ordered some online, they cost from $18-$30 plus shipping :o its not really cheaper for me unless i factor in my time ;) my LHBS's only have Brewerbest kits and some Muntons hopped extracts.
I really like the coopers kits as a base.
