Twisted Monk with mango

So a little over a week ago I started a Brew Demon Twisted Monk kit. I boiled a 9oz package of fresh mango added the hme mix. Then I added another 9oz package of fresh mango to the fermenter. Today I checked the gravity (the ferment time according to brew demon is 7-14 days) and i sampled it. It is sour tasting. Not vinegary but almost a citrisy sour that is not unpleasant.

My question is did I spoil the brew? Where there wild yeasts on the mango? If I let this go will I die if I drink it? Just kidding about the last one although I wonder if I could get sick from it.

how did you add the Mango to the fermentor?
did you boil it or pasteurize it?
maybe the mango is giving it that sour taste? i sometimes get a tart taste from mangos.
if you can stand the smell and taste you should be ok to drink it with out getting sick  ;)

I didn't boil or pasteurize the second package of mangos. I just added them straight in.

were they frozen?
if they were not then you possibly got some wild yeast in there.
which if you did, you will be able to tell in another week or two.
keep your fingers crossed.
you could also blend it with another beer if it isnt infected.

I'm pretty sure it's a wild yeast or a bacteria in it. That's not necessarily bad. As long as you don't find it unpleasant, go for it. You will not get sick, but I will suggest that you refrain from harvesting yeast from that fermenter, and that you do a good job cleaning it when you have emptied it.

good point BB. on no harvesting the yeast
if you use oxiclean or pbw just let it soak for a couple of hours then rinse real good.
rinse with hot water from your tap. then repeat before your next brewday and starsan it.

I ditched the batch and started a Hefeweisen (partial mash) instead. I will try the mango again later
