Howdy from a New York Red Neck
« on: June 21, 2018, 10:58:01 PM »
Howdy!

I'm a born again home-brewer (had a big break for wife and kids and such) and I have been thoroughly enjoying Craigtube's videos, a lot.

My original homebrew was an American Pale Ale (probably an IBU of 35 give or take, and an ABV of 6.5, with a mighty head, you could float the bottle cap on that sh-t) my homeys loved it (at least that what they told me).

I'm loving all the IPA craft brews lately, specifically Sixpoint's Resin, and Troegs' Nugget Nectar and Perpetual IPA, and Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA, so I have some thing to shoot for.

My first foray back into the home brewing world is a triple attack, my old Pale Ale, hopped up a little bit (I'm still testing the "Worters" lol), and two Saisons, using my Pale Ale as the base: a Banana Rum ale and a Citrus-Raspberry ale (hey, it's summer time, lol).

My wife is gluten allergic, so I have been researching a lot and planing on making a tasty (I know...I know) Gluten free beer, from what I've read so far, I'm planing to stay away from sorghum (bitter after taste an all), probably going to shoot for a corn or rice based Saison, using apricot puree?

But the next brew after that is going to be a nice IPA, very hoppy, very strong (based on what happens with the gluten free, Ill decide my base brew.

Glad to be a member of the forum!

welcome aboard
banana rum ale sounds interesting.
the beers you listed are great beers.
I know one of the members a few years back had the same issue as you, he was making a gluten free beer for a family member. might try a search on the forum for it, might give you some ideas.

Try this site for gluten free info. I came across it when I was looking into Chestnut Ale.

I am currently also looking into gluten reduced/free beer. In order for it to be completely free of gluten you cannot use grains containing gluten in the first place, but instead grains like buckwheat. If she is gluten intolerant you can come a long way by using Clarity Ferm or Isinglass. Clarity Ferm is made by White Labs and contains an enzyme that drops out gluten along with the peptides that create chill haze. They also claim that no flavour or aroma will be lost using Clarity Ferm.

Good luck!
