Lost another LHBS

I haven't brewed in awhile due to life getting in the way sometimes, but I put together a recipe and a shopping list, only to find out that the last LHBS store by me closed it's doors.

This was a great supply store run by 2 very talented woman who knew everything about beer and wine making.

For those of you who follow SJ Poor's channel, he also closed his store.

For those of you who still have a LHBS nearby, please support them.

I'm really going to miss the convenience of driving 10 minutes to the store, walking down the aisles selecting my specialty grains, packets of hops, yeast from the cooler, etc.

Even the local nano-breweries shopped there in an emergency when they ran out of something.

I guess the business model of "retail" is doomed.  There is one shopping center by me that was hit pretty hard . . . Sports Authority, Borders Books, Office Max, and Babies R Us all closed up in the one shopping center.

i hear ya, i try and support my LHBS as much as i can, they are looking for help.
there is only 2 in my area the close one is like 15min away the other is 40min away which has been open for a looong time, they even have a sampling of beer and wine. a friend of mine picks stuff up for me there, he lives closer, plus he gets some beer as a pay off :)
i have seen business's leave my state like crazy. the online and convenience factor is killing small business, hell even bigger stores too. well thats enough rambling for me  ;)

It's the same in Norway I'm afraid.

The thing that works for the LHBS I have just started working in is that the same owners also run a pub on the corner of the building, AND they have their own range of beer, and 18 tap lines along with bottles of beer, mead, cider, and wine. They may want me behind the bar in a month or so, is what I've been told by the majority stock holder, which I guess means that it is going to happen.

But before I started working here, I went here to shop my ingredients, equipment and bottles of specialty beer. I still do, at only 10% discount, so they still make money off of me.

I drive 30 mins to my LHBS even though there is one 5 mins away. The one I go to has realistic prices (unlike the one nearby). He is a good bloke and very knowledgeable and has a microbrewery . I even started buying my tins from him that I used to buy online direct from coopers.
Once he realised that I am buying everything from him. he now always chucks in a freebie with every order. It might be 100g of hops or a hop/specialty grain pack or something but it's nice to feel some love for being a loyal customer who spends well on every trip to the LHBS.

Vic has just described the LHBS that he hopefully won't lose, just like the store I just lost.

These 2 ladies at my local store were awesome and had their shelves stocked with 99% of what I needed.

The world economy has certainly changed.

PLS support your LHBS before it's too late, and especially when you need to run out to buy an ingredient for your own recipe, but arrive at a sign that says they are "Out Of Business".
