I would say something kinda session-able maybe 5-6%
Keg 1- HB Blonde ale v2
Keg 2- Simcoe/Amarillo Pale ale
Keg 3- HB Peach Sour
Keg 4- NB Puggled IPA
Keg 5- 17 Red ale
Keg 6- NB Oktoberfest
Keg 7- HB Lager #4

A sessionable stout sounds fine.

I would never suggest stealing someone else's recipe, but I will offer this info if a session stout is something the crew is interested in . . .

There is a guy that I follow on YouTube that brewed a competition / award winning "session stout", and he privately shared the recipe with me.  It featured:

-  Only 4 pounds / 2kg of base malt

-  And then 1 pound of 4 other specialty grains for the stout flavor and color profile

So if this guy can win medals with a session stout, should we at least consider locking in the Maris Otter base malt at 4 pounds, and then move on to choosing the specialty grains?

I am fine locking it in for now, but once we start building we may need to make some weight adjustments when we start punching in the info on the software.

Sounds like a plan Combat32 !

Let's lock in the approx weight of the Maris Otter base malt at 4 pounds, and still be open for further tweaking as we adjust the grain bill.

I'm REALLY hoping that other members who have even a little experience of taking a stout recipe and then tweaking it can join in on this thread.

There are no criticisms here on the 17 Brew Crew Forum.  Please provide your input.

I've already said at the start of this thread that I would really like to collectively brew a great stout that I can say I participated in because my recipe tweaks when it comes to stouts were nothing to write home about.

Yeah, chime in peeps!!

How about an “American Stout”?  It will fall in the range we are after and it’s not the traditional stout that people might think of when they hear stout. Reading about the style in BJCP it sounds great. We don’t need to use exclusive American ingredients but aim for the overall style and such.  Thoughts?

sounds good to me. BJCP guide lines are good, but hey we are homebrewers  ;) brewing for me is close to style, not dead on. lol  any who,  where are some others. dont be shy, i lurked in the shadows for a long time before chiming in. we dont slam people for ideas or the way they brew. we just like to help anyone try and improve a brew. im always trying to figure out how to make my beer better too.  In my trade i tell the new guys, "The only dumb question is the one not asked, so ask away!"

Maris Otter               base malt
flaked oats(toasted)  for the mouth feel and body
flaked barley            for body
Crystal 60                for some color and carmel notes
dark barley              for color and flavor
black malt                for that dark color and coffee bitterness
chocolate malt 300   for color and chocolate/coffee flavors

Hops
fuggles              bittering
kent goldings     flavor/aroma

Yeast
Safale s-04 or WLP007   well for the alcohol  :) of course

Yes I know that some of our members here are sitting on the beach sipping from a straw that is stuck into the top of a coconut IPA, but snow is in forecast here for some of us in the northern hemisphere.

But, how about creating a 17 Brew Crew collaboration for any style of a Stout?  Imperial, milk, etc?  Or a combination of all stout styles.  Whatever the group decides.

Game on . . . . Is there anybody else into contributing portions of your best stout recipe and turning it into something awesome here on https://www.zetaclearcenter.com/ the 17 Brew Crew Forum !

Because I am proposing a single style for this collaboration brew (ie: a Stout), I don't think it needs to go to a vote for which style of a stout.  I think it's best for this thread to collectively progress down the path towards an awesome Stout brew, even if it's a mix of Stout genres.

What do you think ? ? ?

Any brew is good for me, so surprise us.
