thats alot of yeast sitting in the cone.
must have something to do with the opening to the catch jar.
I think i miss spoke on cold crashing, Jamil Zainasheff was talking about crashing fast below 40F on Lagers which could stress yeast and make them excrete compounds. he never did say if you would pick up any off flavors. been listening to alot of podcasts from the brewing network on my ride to and from work.

Transferring from the Fermentasaurus to a keg was another horrible experience . . .

-  I removed the collection jar which you can see from the pic that I posted a few days ago was only half full of yeast and the other half was beer.  I had previously dumped it twice during fermentation.

-  I installed the barbed fitting and attached a hose in order to drain to the keg.

-  When I opened the ball valve nothing came out.  The ball valve was completely blinded by the yeast that had settled on top of it.

-  I had to blow back the hose 3 times and drain to a bucket before enough thick yeast came out and I could start transferring beer.

My keg is now full of yeast and cloudy, and I pray that despite having to keep spraying everything with StarSan that the whole batch doesn't get infected because of all the times I needed to clear and rinse out the hose in hot water.

This product has to be the #1 POS of brewing equipment that I have ever purchased.

I would only recommend it as a secondary fermenter.  But who in their right mind would spend over $100 for a secondary fermenter.  But that's what I'm stuck with now.

Version 2 of this Fermentasaurus is apparently hitting the market.  It doesn't look anything like the version I am stuck with.
Cheers & 17,

Blackdog

I only use the pressure kit to transfer. And it works really great.
Never thought about going from the bottom even I know theres possible. Dosent make sense to me with this fermenter. Cheers!

I agree with that Doc.

BTW . . . I never expected the CO2 that was trapped in solution within your fermenter to expand that much during the brief moment that you simply took the lid off to add hops in your latest video.

If we had known about home brewing back in High School that would make a great science presentation for you.  Much better than the typical experiment where foam flows out of the volcano !
